La Petite Vache

The oldest cheese shop in Brussels

Our story

More than a century of cream, butter and cheese: on Place Saint-Josse, La Petite Vache still welcomes you in the setting of a 1950s Brussels dairy shop.

    The Laiterie de l'Aigle

It all begins in Ixelles. Léopold-Charles and Louise Uyttendaele open a dairy and grocery shop at 18 Rue Malibran: the Laiterie de l'Aigle.

  2. 1934

    La Petite Vache is born

The couple moves to Saint-Josse and the shop takes the name it still bears today. Three generations of Uyttendaeles will run it with passion.

  3. 1950s

    The setting you know

Brussels is growing fast and the Chaussée de Louvain is widened. The neoclassical house makes way for a small building of its time, and the shop is completely refitted. Nothing has changed since: you step into a typical 1950s Brussels dairy shop.

    One chapter ends, another begins

After more than forty years of honest treats, Martine and Charles “Charly” Uyttendaele hang up their aprons. Julie Moulia, who had been running Le Plateau du Berger in Ixelles for a few years, takes over La Petite Vache with her team and gives it a new lease of life.

    The little sister, in Uccle

Julie takes over the Poissonnerie de France on Avenue Montjoie and turns it into the little sister of La Petite Vache. The adventure goes on, the tradition lives on.

« Flavour, quality, farmhouse! »
The values of the house have not changed since the Uyttendaeles. Julie and her team carry them on, at the counter in Saint-Josse and in Uccle.
